What's the difference between benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid?

And what do both do?What's the difference between benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid?
salicylic acid

- gets right into pores, helps skin turnover so is really good for blackheads and other blocked pore issues

- is better for sensitive skin than bp

benzoyl peroxide kills a bacteria responsible for acne

personally, i thought bp was the best option for me, until i found a SA facewash that helped with blackheads, as well as the deep cystic acne along my chin and cheeks, which i think was hormonally caused.

(in the past, i'd tried other SA formulations which sucked, for texture, so didn't really give it a try until this year. very happy.)

edit to add: bp's MAIN action is antibacterial. In my experience, its skin turnover action was very slow, so that my skin just looked dry and flaky. With SA I had flaky skin for maybe a week - used a washcloth, and since then it's been great. this is anecdotal info though - try it and see for yourself. What's the difference between benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid?
they are chemically different from each other.

salicylic acid= C6H4(OH)CO2H

benzoyl peroxide= (C6H5CO)2O2 or C14H10O4

salicylic acid is a key ingredient in many skin-care products for the treatment of acne, psoriasis, calluses, corns, keratosis pilaris, and warts. It works by causing the cells of the epidermis to slough off more readily, preventing pores from clogging up, and allowing room for new cell growth.

Benzoyl peroxide works as a peeling agent, increasing skin turnover and clearing pores, thus reducing the bacterial count there as well as directly as an antibacterial.
