Not sure, The citric acid in lemon has properties that can kill harmful bacteria present in acne. A paste of orange peels also cleanses the skin and fights harmful bacteria.Log on to http://tipsfromruby-acne.blogspot.com/ for a few home made tips to heal acneWhat would max strength benzoyl peroxide acne cream do to acne scabs??
It dries the zits and contributes to scabbing. The skin underneath has to heal before the scabs fall off.

Can you buy benzoyl peroxide gel/cream in the UK in stores?

Boots etc? Or do I have to just order from the internet and wait years for it to get to my house? Can you buy benzoyl peroxide gel/cream in the UK in stores?
You can get it from Boots over the counter at the Pharmacy section. If you use it though, be careful with getting it on clothes, as it can discolour them. Can you buy benzoyl peroxide gel/cream in the UK in stores?
Yes, you need to ask at the pharmacy counter. You can ask for Benzoyl Peroxide, and the name on the tube will probably be Panoxyl, which is a gel containing benzoyl peroxide. It comes in different strengths. I would suggest you start with the 2.5% one. Wash your hands very thoroughly after use (scrub with a nail brush), or you will get bleached stains on your hand towels. It can also stain bed clothing and pillowcases. I gave up on it in the end after ruining several hand towels. I have greasy skin with open pores, and I found another product I like better called ';gamma hydroxy skin resurfacing cream';. You order this online, it comes very quickly and doesn't ruin your towels!
Anytime I had an outbreak of spots, thank goodness not for years now, I used to buy it from Boots, cleared them up very quickly
Yes you can buy it from the pharmacy counter at Boots, only costs a few quid!
Over the counter at any pharmacy.
Yes they should do, ive brought some from boots before. Behind the pharmacy counter though

How long does benzoyl peroxide take to get tid of blemsihes?

i used it last nite

and i must admit theve went down but that could be my garnier blemish facewash

So am not sure

the benzoyl peroxide has really dried up my skin

But i would like to know how long it takes to work ??How long does benzoyl peroxide take to get tid of blemsihes?
though most every acne cleanser on the market contains benzoyl peroxide as an ingredient (including your garnier), i'm willing to bet it's the benzoyl peroxide that's made your acne calm down... i used it when i had severe acne (my young teenage days, OY!) and it was the first thing that honestly really helped my skin.

don't freak out that it's dried your skin - it needs to dry out all the oil %26amp; bacteria so your skin can clear up. trust me, just use a light moisturizer for when you need it %26amp; keep up with the BP and you'll definitely see improvement.

Is there benzoyl peroxide in Sensodyne Brilliant Whitening Toothpaste?

I am using it to help treat my pimples right now, instead of the stuff actually meant for treating pimples, which is crappy enough to make them worse. I was looking for something with Benzoyl Peroxide, and all I found that might have it is my Sensodyne Brilliant Whitening toothpaste. Is there benzoyl peroxide in Sensodyne Brilliant Whitening Toothpaste?
No, there is no benzoyl peroxide in Sensodyne toothpaste. Benzoyl peroxide is in Clearasil BP, or Oxy 5, or Persagel, to name a few.

What is a good benzoyl peroxide daily face wash?

i know of proactive, please give me some ideas of what else is good that is out there there are so many different brandsWhat is a good benzoyl peroxide daily face wash?
my teenage son has tried virtually every single one on the market - his skin is currently completely blemish-free (and he gets it bad, if he doesn't use something)....he found that using Oxy Maximum Face Wash (10% benzoyl peroxide) is *very* effective, and has no odor/scent. however, it's also very *drying*. -

therefore, he switches every other day between that and Neutrogena Men Skin Clearing Face Wash, which contains a milder active ingredient: Salicylic Acid 1.5% (sounds harsh, but it's not! - also, it smells great!).What is a good benzoyl peroxide daily face wash?
Neutrogena has a good face wash that has salacylic acid in it. This will not bleach your dark clothing.

Is sulphur cream better or benzoyl peroxide?

sulphur doesn't seem to work? but benzoyl peroxide burns up the skin and leave black marks? Is sulphur cream better or benzoyl peroxide?
Sulphur is much stronger than benzoyl peroxide. But all skin is different-sounds like you shouldn't be using either. Talk to a dermatologist. Is sulphur cream better or benzoyl peroxide?
Sulfur worked wonders for me but the benzoyl peroxide made me all red and itchy,,,,

What is a good exfoliant containing benzoyl peroxide?

I have a ton of comedones on my face. Mainly on the sides of my chin. I've had them for YEARS and I'm just so fed up with them. I've tried Proactive. Did not do a thing. I've tried a lot of things, actually. All I want to know is what is a good exfoliant containing benzoyl peroxide? Id like to find something that has a lot of ';scrub'; to it...like St. Ives Apricot Scrub...but with the benzoyl peroxide. Any suggestions? What is a good exfoliant containing benzoyl peroxide?
Try St. Ive's Apricot Scrub Blemish %26amp; Blackhead Control. It has Salicylic acid which also gets rid of acne just like benzoyl peroxide. Use it only a couple times a week though because it can make your skin sensitive to the sun. Then use Biore Oil Free Moisturizer with SPF 15. Its makes your skin feel fresh and not oily. Hope that helps (:

What can I use besides benzoyl peroxide to treat acne?

I heard benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid cause cancer, and my face is too close to my brain to risk getting skin cancer, so I was wondering if I could use anything else. What can I use besides benzoyl peroxide to treat acne?
Consider taking a shower both before you go to bed and as soon as you get up when you get a bad break out. I use Neutrogena's Deep Clean Scrub in the shower. Maybe even look for a clay mask you can put on and rinse off before bed. I put on Differin cream on my blemishes before bed.

Also remember to change your pillow case daily! It holds the oils from your face.

Remember to keep your oils from your hands and hair away from your face as much as possible.

Also, look for concealers that will cover blemishes but won't make them oilier. Both Clearasil and Neutrogena have a good concealer out. What can I use besides benzoyl peroxide to treat acne?
well you'd be better on the antibiotic minocycline. I doubt benzoyl peroxide would cause cancer but its pretty sore on the face...........

    Top tips against cancer:

    1) Avoid high alcoholic content drinks like wine...stick to beers

    2) If you've reflux get it sorted...acid in the oesophagus will induce cancer over time

    3) If you've ulcers/ helicobacter...get it sorted...precancerous

    4) Sunblock

    5) Eat vegetables several times daily to act as antioxidents
Toothpaste!!!!!!! It works wonderful! Just sit in ur shower with the cold water OFF and let the steam get to ur face! After about 15 minutes put toothpaste on your face. If you did this correctly it will feel like your face is going to get frostbite leave it on there as long as u can and then rinse off with super cold water this will close your pores! ONLY use the paste dont use any that is gel unless its crest whitening expressions cuz thats what i use and it works super good!

Wondering why toothpaste works so well?

Its becuz it has mint in it which is super good for your face. I recomend crest whitening expressions mint! It has pieces of mint leaves in it which works better then just the plain ole white kind!
    HONEY=====================

Cover the blemish with a dab of honey And put a band aid on it HONEY kills the bacterial keeps skin sterile and speeds up healing .. works like almost over night no joke.
I had acne really bad than, I used Brewer's Yeast Pills cleared up. Check the internet for it other uses.

Is sulphur cream better or benzoyl peroxide?

sulphur doesn't seem to work? but benzoyl peroxide burns up the skin and leave black marks? Is sulphur cream better or benzoyl peroxide?
What are you using it for? If you're treating oily or acneic skin, don't use either. Try a mild face wash with salcylic acid, gentle exfoliation 1-2x a week and a clay based mask 1-2x a week. Use the wash AM and PM. Don't use anything harsh on your face. Benzoyl peroxide strips all the moisture away, and the only response your skin has is to up the oil production to hydrate itself. Then you have more breakouts and so it goes.Is sulphur cream better or benzoyl peroxide?
Benzoyl Peroxide works better becauase it was proven better before sulphur cream.

Does using benzoyl peroxide/salicylic acid forever make acne go away forever?

For example, Proactiv is basically a whole bunch of benzoyl peroxide. If used continously will it keep acne away as long as you use it?Does using benzoyl peroxide/salicylic acid forever make acne go away forever?
Benzoyl Peroxide is a strong chemical that is more concentrated than salicylic acid, so you should not be using benzoyl on a regular basis because it leads to peeling and severe dry skin. In regards to your question, yes it controls the acne to stabilize its production by drying skin to control the oil %26amp; bacteria (which causes acne). Although, acne is also genetic. You can't control it all the time because it comes with puberty and your genes.

But products containing these chemicals will at least control it better.

Use Biore ice cleanser. I use it and my skin has never been clearer because it has salicylic acid and its daily usage really smoothes and clears skin, while its cooling effect really refreshes the face on a hot day.Does using benzoyl peroxide/salicylic acid forever make acne go away forever?
There is NO cure for acne. Benzoyl Peroxide is common in most acne medicine. It can come in a liquid such as a toner or a cream. I spoke with my doctor a couple of days ago and she said i can buy anything with benzoyl peroxide 5% in it and it does help improve acne. She said 10% benzoyl peroxide is too much and will dry your skin out. I would suggest to go to a dermatoligist and discuss it with him/her. They can tell you everything you need to know. As far as proactive, it did not work for me. I have tried everything and nothing works. I recently got put in Tetraycline (its an oral antibiotic) and i'm waiting to see if i get any results from that. Everyone is different and everyones skin reacts differently to things, such as proactive. Good luck!

  • Which one is better at getting rid of current pimples, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide?

Is one better for prevention? What about using them both, is there any harm, and if not which is applied first?

Thanks!Which one is better at getting rid of current pimples, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide?
i think salicylic acid, both are for prevention but for my skin this one is better. Try not using them both because you never know what could happen.Which one is better at getting rid of current pimples, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide?
Both of these are good but they work on different things.

The Salicylic acid disolves the cells inside and on top of the skin. It works best in oil so it is good for working inside the pore.

Benzoyl Peroxide is effective against the bacteria which aggravates acne.

Most products (or product lines) contain both these ingredients.

There is no harm in using them both.
Go to acne.org and follow the regimen explained there. It works every time. This regimen uses benzoyl peroxide but also mentions salicylic acid.
Try turpentine! Or hydrochloric acids! YEAH!!!!

Is it ok to put on a BENZOYL PEROXIDE spot treatment then apply a moisturizer which has SALICYLIC ACID in it?

im planning to buy aveeno clear complexion daily moisturizer which contains salicylic acid.. can i use it eventhough im using 10% benzoyl peroxide spot treatment?? is it ok to use both products at the same time?

Is it ok to put on a BENZOYL PEROXIDE spot treatment then apply a moisturizer which has SALICYLIC ACID in it?
That's what I use on my skin but you have to be careful. I use the spot treatment at night and the moisturizer in the morning and haven't had a problem even on the rare occasions that I use them together but your skin might be more sensitive than mine.Is it ok to put on a BENZOYL PEROXIDE spot treatment then apply a moisturizer which has SALICYLIC ACID in it?
Although all acne medication bottles and packaging say to not do it except with a doctor's advice, I've always used multiple treatments and never had any problems. That being said, if you have sensitive skin, you shouldn't do it, as it could really irritate it.

I would suggest, though, that if you do it, that you put the moisturiser on first, then the benzoyl peroxide. I found it to work much better.

What would heal a pimple faster, toothpaste or a 5% benzoyl peroxide cream?

I have a HUGE zit that i need gone by tomorow ! What one of these two would make them heal faster ?! HELP PLEASEWhat would heal a pimple faster, toothpaste or a 5% benzoyl peroxide cream?
The 5% benzoyl peroxide cream due to its combinatorial drying and antibacterial properties. Toothpaste will help dry out the pimple but it won't kill the bacteria deep in the pore. What would heal a pimple faster, toothpaste or a 5% benzoyl peroxide cream?
tooth paste has worked for me in the past but it wasnt a miracle cure it left my skin kind of burnt and chapped . also this may seem kind of weird but try and raw potato cut it open and apply to affected area.

Is Benzoyl Peroxide good for eliminating blemishes on the chin?

I have 10% benzoyl peroxide and i use it in the morning and afternoon and wash it off at night. Does it work?Is Benzoyl Peroxide good for eliminating blemishes on the chin?
Hell no. Not 10%, that'll screw your face up! I personally have always used 2-5% prescription Benzyl Peroxide.

You have the whole process wrong in putting it on as well. You're supposed to put a small dab of it on each pimple at NIGHT TIME before you go to sleep. When you wake up, simply wash it off, you'll notice it reduced dramatically or gone because your skin healed even faster, regaining energy as you slept. Is Benzoyl Peroxide good for eliminating blemishes on the chin?
I advise to use face toning products. Like, Almay pore liquids, or proactive. There are products in local pharmacy store specifically for blemishes.

Benzoyl Peroxide won't really do anything Benzoyl peroxide is used as an acne treatment, for improving flour, for bleaching hair and teeth, for polymerizing polyester and many other uses. It will dry your skin out and chap it.

I advise not using multi-purpose product like that for your face.

not 10% no it won't. it will put a hole in you chin and burn it. go for 5% or even 2% works the best. it's mild gentle and effective. the proactive one is a good water based one.
Yes in my experience it works...also try washing your face once/twice a day vigorously with a wash cloth and soap. And maybe a drying mask.

Can Benzoyl peroxide really cause a tumor?

Hi, I heard online that Benzoyl peroxide can cause tumors. Is this true? Can Benzoyl peroxide really cause a tumor?
Benzoyl peroxide generates free radicals in the skin. Its effect is similar to unprotected sun exposure. The redness of the skin (erythema), caused by sun exposure and benzoyl peroxide, is the result of free radicals (oxidative stress) upon the skin. Repeated sun exposure or benzoyl peroxide use generates free radicals that damage the skin's structure and cellular DNA, resulting in premature aging of the skin. The extent of the damage and aging from benzoyl peroxide is determined by the concentration of benzoyl peroxide, the frequency of application, and the duration of its use.

Because benzoyl peroxide generates free radicals, it interferes with and slows the healing process. The red and brown marks that are a part of the acne healing process may last weeks longer when benzoyl peroxide is a regular part of the daily regimen.

Benzoyl peroxide has been linked to cancer for a number of years and many research journal entries state ';benzoyl peroxide is a free radical-generating skin tumor promoting agent.'; Performing a word search of the words ';benzoyl peroxide cancer'; in PubMed in the National Library of Medicine produces 102 articles from medical publications dealing with research aspects of benzoyl peroxide and cancer. About two-thirds of the research supports linkage between benzoyl peroxide and skin cancer.

';In 1995 the FDA changed benzoyl peroxide from a Category I (safe) to a Category III (safety is uncertain) ingredient and stated this action (56 FR 37622) was based on new information that raised a safety concern regarding benzoyl peroxide as a tumor promoter in mice ...'; Additionally the FDA charged manufacturers with the responsibility of providing this information to consumers so they could make educated decisions. A more complete FDA statement is at the bottom of this page, for your reference. Can Benzoyl peroxide really cause a tumor?
I have nver heard that before..
I would think it has something to do with the percentage used in the mice and the amount that percentage is in humans,
    ive never heard that before

i dont think its true ..

Does benzoyl peroxide liquid help get ride of acne or pimples?

I have face, chest and back acne and with out it i would be smokin hot and i mean literly and a new school year is about to start. i want it gone fast!Does benzoyl peroxide liquid help get ride of acne or pimples?
just stay away from foods that you think causes you acne. Acne is caused my hormonal change, and over production of sebum oil, and when you have clogged pores mix with dead skin cells and oil, boom! an acne will appear.

My advise is clean your face 2x a day, make sure you dont wash it more than 3x a day as this will strip off oil necessary to keep your skin healthy and it will dry your skin. Just exercise regularly, eat healthy foods (fruits %26amp; Vegestables). Make sure you drink plenty of water to keep your skin moisturizes. Sleep early and get enough sleep (8-10 hous a day) and avoid being stress.

And if you follow all these, I guarantee you, your face will be clearer.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

The products you are using, are they Salsylic Acid or Benzoyl peroxide? BP can be VERY drying. I personally like SA better. Salsylic acid it really good. It is in almost all acne washes. Benzoyl Peroxide is too drying for me! Try finding a face lotion with SA in it. Clean and Clear has a good moisturizer with SA and it helps keep pimples at bay. It is only about $5 a bottle and lasts about 2 months and you can get it at your local store. I have used this in the past and it works well. Personally, I use Biore products (which you get over the counter. Their products range from $5-$10). They are harsh on pimples, but not on your face.

Personally, Proactive didn't work for me. I have been using Biore products for over a year and I hardly ever break out! Occasionally I will get one or two, but nothing bad. I use Biore Ice Cleanser for acne and Biore warming facial scrub every morning for blackheads (This stuff works. I notcied a DRASTIC diffrence in my blackeads being GONE within 2 weeks) . And then 3-4 day s a week I use Biore purging pore cream scrub. For body acne I use Neutrogena acne body wash I never break out on my body. It gets 110 in summer so sweat in inevitably, yet I never break out. Give it a try. All of it is cheap too. About $5-10 depending on what you buy! Salsylic acid it really good. It is in almost all acne washes. Benzoyl Peroxide is too drying for me! I think you will just need to experiment with products until you find what works for you. Remember, it can take 1 month for products to fully begin working! Good Luck!Does benzoyl peroxide liquid help get ride of acne or pimples?
It is one of the best tings for it. Try products with salicylic acid and glycolic acid as well.

I'm not sure of your budget but the Glytone range do some good products.

The Benzoyl you can get it cheaply from a chemist.

But at your age i think it's the hormones.

I've listed some products below i think will help you.
yes, but use it 3 times a day and wash your face before hand. If you need your pimples gone ASAP look into proactive. I personally use clean and clear and it works great but it's all gradual. Overnight care I would suggest the proactive
It works for me. Use the cleanser and such from either the Clean and Clear line or Neutrogena. Both work really well on clearing up acne.
I got this thing called Duac when I went to the doctors. My skin was clear in a couple of weeks and has been ever since and I think that has benzoyl peroxide.
Yes. It dries them out-try Proactiv-it works.
yes!! i have a cream called (Duac) ask your doc and it works like a treat!! good luck
When it comes to the face, heat is the biggest key. Heat creates an atmosphere for your pores to expand. A hot rag (as hot as you can stand it) across the face is the best bet. As far as a topical treatment, you need to invest in a good scrub and a very fine toner. I tell people this all the time that I do makeup for. Here are some key things to remember when looking for cleansers:

    1. A good scrub needs to have some sort of exfoliant (i.e. microbeads, pumice grains, etc.) in it. Once you have applied the hot rag to your face and opened up your pores, the scrub is used to get deep down into the pores and clean them out.

    2. In a good scrub, stay away from anything that has a lot of soap or fragrance to it. Fragrance = additives that probably will makes things worse. Your main ingredient when looking for a scrub is salicylic acid. Salicylic acid acts as an antibacterial to cleanse deep to break up the blackheads and fight the bacteria causing them.

    3. A good toner should be found because once the skin is clean, the toner is used to tighten the cleansed pores to minimalize the entrance of future bacteria. And sadly to say it (but get over it), A TONER DOES STINK! Its made primarily of alcohol, so it will stink! Get over it! It's worth it!

    4. Lastly, and a lot of people don't think about this, find a light lotion with an added sunscreen (at least SPF 15). You want a light lotion (nothing fancy or fragrancy) with a sunscreen to prevent dryness from the toner and the sunscreen willhelp protect from sun damage (obviously!).

Always remember to catch blackheads before they start (before they become pimples)! And for the love of God: DO NOT PICK AT A PIMPLE IF YOU GET ONE! picking only creates more infection from the bacteria on your hands....and most importantly: it's just GROSS! Some brands to try for a scurb or toner would be: Oil of Olay, Biore`, Clinique, Clean %26amp; Clear, Clearasil.......just to name a few! Oh and p.s. to guys: just because girls use it in a commercial DOES NOT mean that a guy cannot use it too! A girl would like it a lot more to see a guy with a clean face and a cabinet full of girly skin care stuff, than Mister Zit next door! I'm gay....trust me on this!

I think that cleanser containing Salicylic acid works better. It can dry out your skin, so use an oil free moisturizer afterwords. Yes, you can purchase over the counter.
Most of the over the counter acne meds contain Benzoyl Peroxide, but they never did much for me except dry my skin terribly and the pimple was usually still there. I've started a green drink, All Day Energy Greens. I mix it into some applejuice and drink it every morning. My skin has never looked better and the pimples have practiacally disappeared. I've also heard that ';Nature's Cure';, availabe at Walgreens, works really well. Might want to give it a try. Best wishes.
No, unless you want craters on your face. Blackheads simple,

This works, but if u want to pay I don't know how much $ u need!

Yes indeed it works. It has been around since dirt, and it the key ingredient in many OTC acne products. It is cheap, unless you go out and buy that Proactive stuff. Guess what? the key ingredient in Proactive is what else? benzoyl peroxide only you will end up paying 100X more for it. Don't line someone Else's pockets go and grab some Clearasil and give it a try.
Yes, benzoyl peroxide is the key ingredient in all effective acne medications. The percentage to look for is usually 10%, and it is sold over the counter in most acne medications, for example Clean %26amp; Clear's Persa-Gel 10
I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!

Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:

    1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

    2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

I found a step-by-step program that cured my acne and it has never come back. It is amazing and doesn鈥檛 use any drugs or doctors. The truth is that acne can be cured鈥f we know the secret the doctors and drug companies don鈥檛 want us to know.

If you are sure its safe than use the cetaphil before the BP cleanser. BP has a way of workign in tiem periods so its better to ahev ti pon then washign it away.

Are there any acne-fighting body washes that use Benzoyl Peroxide instead of Salicylic Acid?

I'm pregnant and Salicylic Acid is a no-no. But all the over-the-counter acne body washes like Neutrogena have Salicylic Acid. Benzoyl Peroxide is ok to use, but I can't find a body wash where that is the main ingredient. Can anyone advise on something that is safe to use?Are there any acne-fighting body washes that use Benzoyl Peroxide instead of Salicylic Acid?
Proactiv line of anti-acne products uses benzoyl peroxide as one of the main active ingredients. I imagine if you check out pretty much any anti-acne products at your local pharmacy, you will find it contains peroxide. They do make anti-acne body washes... try Noxema, Clean %26amp; Clear, Phisoderm or Brevoxyl.

Here is what you need to know about benzoyl peroxide, though, before you go putting it all over your body:

';Benzoyl peroxide is effective in the treatment of most forms of acne. It is typically placed over the affected areas in gel or cream form, in concentrations of 2.5% increasing through the usually effective 5% to up to 10%. Research suggests that 5 and 10% concentrations are NOT significantly more effective than 2.5% and 2.5% is usually better tolerated. It commonly causes initial dryness and sometimes irritation, although skin tolerance usually occurs after a week or so. A small percentage of people are much more sensitive to it and liable to suffer burning, itching, peeling and possibly swelling. It is sensible to apply the lowest concentration and build up as appropriate. Once tolerance is achieved, increasing the quantity or concentration a second time and gaining tolerance at a higher level usually gives better subsequent acne clearance. Benzoyl peroxide works as a peeling agent, increasing skin turnover and clearing pores, thus reducing the bacterial count there as well as directly as an antibacterial. It is also used in bleaching products, and will lighten hair and fabrics.'; (from Wikipedia)

Not to mention it makes you more sensitive to sunlight and can increase your risk for sun damage and burning, so use it cautiously. If you are thinking of using it to treat body acne, I suggest you buy a spot treatment gel instead and apply it to those areas affected rather than bathing in it. If you do decide to bath with a peroxide wash, be careful to avoid areas where you have mucus membranes (mouth, eyes, genitals, etc) and areas with open cuts. Are there any acne-fighting body washes that use Benzoyl Peroxide instead of Salicylic Acid?
i think its called oxy. double check the ingredients. i think proactiv does too

Why did my salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide products stop working?

I used clean%26amp;clear salicylic acid dual action moisturtizer, clearisil daily ance control togther adn they worked pretty well but stopped working. then i got biore warming anti-blackhead cream cleanser and biore pore minimizing face wash. they didn't work. i don't have bad ance. its just on my right cheek bone. like a few break-outs.Why did my salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide products stop working?
I heard sometimes after your skin is immune to the cleansers your using they will stop working. Thats what Proactive did for me. It worked really good at first then after six months or so, my face was the same again just like I started. Why did my salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide products stop working?
Acne can be pretty resistant. The P acne bacteria builds up a resistance to products after a while. Biore products didn't work for me. You can try different products and find out what works for you. I've heard good things from others about Origins spot remover and Proactive, although for me, those two did nothing. DDF 10% Glycolic toner worked well on me - but then it stopped working. I would try different products and remember to switch to new ones when they stop working. Good luck.

What work's better tanning,or benzoyl peroxide?

If you're talking about acne, I would say benzoyl peroxide at 2.5% (not the normal 10% ';maximum strength'; types they sell at the store all the time) but ONLY if you're not allergic to it.

Tanning may help somewhat, but tanning is bad for your skin in the long run. Tanning can cause skin cancer and premature aging of the skin (which means, wrinkles, age spots, etc).

But you know, for acne, benzoyl peroxide is the only treatment you can try. There's also salicylic acid, tea tree oil, sulfur, and a host of prescription products. What work's better tanning,or benzoyl peroxide?
i'm assuming you are referring to acne, in which case, definitely benzoyl peroxide just don't over do it

there is a lot of research out there that states tanning can actually make the problem worse

good luckWhat work's better tanning,or benzoyl peroxide?
if you're talking clearing up acne, i'd go with tanning. benzoyl peroxide can be really, really harsh (i'm allergic to it), plus it doesn't always work for some people. tanning usually helps clear up skin.
Tanning works it hides the blemishes but i would use a cleanser for acne and a moisturizer on a daily basis anyway. Clinique has some pretty good stuff or get on birth control pills which work for some people also!

You don't have to buy expensive products to vanish those irritaing acne, you can try different home remedies. Do you know that yoga can cure acne? Try it! it will help your blood circulation increase. Your acne was due to too much dirt, you can try using papaya fruit with lemon. It will help vanish your acne scars. Just mash the papaya, add the lemon juice and scrub it. It's effectve! there are lots of remedies that you can do to get rid of acne. Just check the site bellow. Is there any good on the spot acne treatments that dont contain benzoyl peroxide?
proactive dried out my face. I stopped using it and immediately started using clean %26amp; clear face wash and the acne cream, that does contain benzoyl peroxide but I only used a tiny bit wherever the zit was. It seemed to work over night and didn't dry out my face.

What's the difference between Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide?

Benzoyl Peroxide is way more drying on the skin. If you have an ULTA store near you they will totally answer all your questions and not push products on you. What's the difference between Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide?
the first is aspirin's active ingredient (abbreviated as ASA) and the second is an acne preparation. both have dermatological uses. for example ASA is used to treat warts. What's the difference between Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide?
different meds -like meth and pot.

What's the difference between hydrogen peroxide and benzoyl peroxide?

Are they equally strong and/or safe to use on skin as an antiseptic?

Thanks. What's the difference between hydrogen peroxide and benzoyl peroxide?
hydrogen peroxide is water and oxygen and it will put oxygen through the skin to the blood cells as well as oxidize germs. Benzine is a strong chemical .What's the difference between hydrogen peroxide and benzoyl peroxide?
i thinkhydrogen peroxide is what's used to make your hair blonde. but i'm not sure. benzoyl peroxide is used for helping with acne problems on your skin.

    Benzoyl Peroxide?

I've been using Benzoyl Peroxide 5% the past week.... i want to start using the 2.5%... is there a big difference?? I live in Canada.. does anyone kno a place that sells 2.5% BP??Benzoyl Peroxide?
For most people the only difference between the two is the irritancy. 2.5% usually works just as well. If you can't find it on the shelf ask the pharmacist; if he knows there is a demand for 2.5% he will order it in from his warehouse.

    Benzoyl peroxide??

i use benzoyl peroxide on my face at night to get rid of pimples and every place i apply it turns lighter than my face color...how do i get rid of the discoloration and my face is always a pinkish color compared to my olive skin tone and feels really dry...should i use a microdermabrasion kit even if i have acne?...thanks!Benzoyl peroxide??
at one time i used peroxide and toothpaste on my zits for the same thing, and then i found the Acne solutions spot healing gel from clinique- something one of my friends recommended to use because i was having the same problem. its been a few years now and it works the best of anything i've tried for zits. if your face is covered in them then try something else, but for ones that are here and there it's the bomb.

*even my boyfriend uses it after he shaves his face and neck, and he doesnt get razor bumps/rash.. i made him go buy the next round because he ended up using it all!!!

    here's the link..

    http://www.clinique.com/templates/produc鈥?/a>Benzoyl peroxide??
Absolutely DO NOT use the microdermabrasion kit if you have acne!!! It will make matters much worse. The benzoyl peroxide is literally bleaching your face, that explains the discoloration. It is supposed to clear a blemish by drying the skin... so, it's doing what it is sold to do. Given your description, try using a product with salicylic acid as the active ingredient rather than benzoyl peroxide. This will still have a somewhat drying effect, but less likely to bleach your skin.

Otherwise, you would be well served to seek the assistance of a dermatologist. But, please do not use that microderm kit - you think it's dicolored now... that will make it raw, red and likely spawn new breakouts.

    Best of luck!
well after you clean your face with pimple cleanser, always use a mosturizer after to get back your colour
leave it alone and it will turn gack to its original colour. simply use a moisturiser with AHA.
Use special tone-improving lotions. You can find it in local drugstores, it gradually make your skin one color.
that happened to me, so i stopped using such a strong spot-treatment. you're probably using a product that's 10% benzoyl peroxide, yeah? try looking for a products that's around 2.5% and put it on your entire face. this way, you'll get all over coverage that will help fight off pimples before they start, and you won't get those nasty light marks.

    hope all goes well!
you should use it all over your face, not just the pimples
Benzoyl Peroxide is a caustic chemical that was never meant for use on skin. It's akin to trying hair bleach on your acne. The discoloration may actually be the result of drying out your sensitive skin in areas whereas other areas are not dry. You actually may need a moisturizer. What has helped alot of people is the ProActiv system - have you tried that? It didn't really work for me because my skin reacts differently than it sounds like yours does. From what you're saying - you really could benefit from a more gentle treatment. It sounds like you have acne but that you also have sensitive skin. Lay off the over the counter acne treatments and get something more proven, effective, gentle and good for your skin that will improve your skin overall as well as treat the issue. Microdermabrasion may cause additional discoloration issues if you have sensitive skin.
I would stop using peroxide, it acts like a bleaching chemical. It is not harmful, but will cause discoloration. You just need to use an astringent, or even alcohol will do.
benzoyl peroxide release nescent oxygen that kills bacteria but it also act as oxidising agent. Result is bleaching action on face where you applied it. Switch to some other agent like erythromycin gel eg eryacne etc.....
    qo tanninqq..

    Benzoyl Peroxide?

Is there a way to tone down skin dryness caused by BP? Can I mix it with my moisturisers and then apply?

Since we're at it, do you guys know how to EFFECTIVELY prevent breakouts and calm skin redness? Thanks in advance ;)Benzoyl Peroxide?
When I first used BP, i noticed two things almost two days after i started using it, once a day. 1) My skin was flaking and dry, 2) I was no longer getting any new acne, and it was treating current acne well. For the dryness, you can use a moisturizer, but make use it says OIL FREE on it. I clean my face, add BP, then add moisturizer once a day and it works VERY well. No acne at all really, just scars left from before.Benzoyl Peroxide?
thought u add the moisturizer to the Bp, the BPs would dry up,cos its in the nature to evaporate(thats the oxygen molecule tend to get attach in to the air)..so taking away the moisture of the skin too...

but thers a solution for it...apply aloevera gel..soon after uve done with bleaching..its a great moisturizer, and also a great soothing agent..

    hope it works 4 u..!!

  • Benzoyl Peroxide?

I have acne all over my forehead and now its spreading everywhere else.I tried salicylic acid but it just doesnt work.Im thinking about using Benzoyl Peroxide but I am afraid speaking I have very dry sensitive skin and I dont want to make it worse.Should I give it a try and what product should I use?Is it safe to get your eyebrows waxed?I used to use Retin A and I couldnt wax with that. This doesnt bleach your skin does it??Benzoyl Peroxide?
Benzoyl Peroxide is extremely effective when it comes to treating pimples. But be warned your skin MAY become very dry and start flaking. Use a NON-OILY face moisturizer after applying your medication.

Better yet go see your doctor lolBenzoyl Peroxide?
Good advice, thanks! :) Report Abuse

it doesn't bleach your skin, but it will bleach your towels!
no it wont bleach your skin or harm your skin when getting your eyebrows waxed. those are false rumors. it WILL dry out your skin a little at first, but that is too dry up all your pimples and it will only be dry where the pimple was and will only last a couple days with treatment.

there is this great product that you can get at any drug store called Zapzyt. it comes in a small tube and it has 10% Benzoyle Peroxide. I use this every night before i go to bed and i put on ALL over my face (not just on the imperfections!) after a few weeks i was completely acne free and i still am now and i use it every day. also if you have dry flakes on your skin, you skin is not dry. the flakes are there becasue of excess oil produced becasue that part of your face works the most. just use a scrub, like st. ives peach scrub twice a day and use a mosterizer, like clean and clear morning burst in the morning.

also remember to drink 8 glasses of water a day (it cleanses your whole body, including your face) and eat healthy and exercise daily.

if you do all this you will see amazing results.
i just started using witches' hazel (peroxide) on my nose and the sides. i have blackheads there and i really see an improvement. the bad side is that peroxide smells really bad! my friend and i were gagging after i showed her it.

i dont have acne but every now and then i have zits. my skin is normal/little dry. i still wax my eyebrows and its fine.

if you wear bronzer, stop. it really makes you break out. and any other makeup that you use on your face that clogs your pores.

    try proactiv or clearasil.

a good habit to get into is:

    - take a shower at night and wash your face with the dove beauty bar (get the one for sensitive skin)

    - before you go to bed, when your face is dry (pat it dry if not), clean your face with clearasil acne control cleansing pads.

    - when your done cleaning your face with that, use the clearasil vanishing cream

you should see an improvement when you wake up

also, so far i haven't seen any bleaching with the peroxide. to use for bleach you have to leave it on for a while. i have used bleach to cleach my upper lip and it didn't change my skin color so peroxide wouldn't either.
My brother has chronic Acne and his dermo told him to use dial soap and a clean and clear gel persa gel.

then use an oil free face lotion.
Probably one of the best ways to get rid of it, but since you have sensitive skin I would recomend consulting your doctor before you use it, and maybe see if (s)he can recomend any other options.
i use the acne free it kit, they sell it at walmart for 18 dollars ( i think ), i also have sensitive and dry skin. when my skin gets dry i put jergens lotion on it
AND DO YOU KNOW WHY ITS SPREADING??? its because your POPING IT. the liquid in your pimples some times have viruses in them. it will cause to make more pimples once they get on your good skin.......DON'T POP.
If you are limited to over-the-counter acne products, benz. peroxide works for some people but not for everyone and not generally for people who have severe acne.

Pro-Activ, the acne product endorsed by Jessica Simpson, supposedly has a pretty good track record when used according to the three-step process which is included in the kit:

    1) cleanse/exfoliate

    2) tone

    3) treat, using a Benzoyl-peroxide-based lotion.

And, no, benzoyl peroxide doesn't bleach your skin. You are thinking of hydrogen peroxide, the kind of stuff used by 13-year old girls to bleach their hair.

Here is another acne medication - a lotion or cream - that my son used when he was going through a bad acne stage at age 14; however, it is prescription only. It is called, ';Benziclin,'; and it worked wonders for his skin in only a matter of days. I would almost swear by this acne preparation, however, I realize that not all acne products work the same on everyone.

Just a thought: If you have bangs or hair worn over the forehead, try pushing them off your face as often as possible. The lack of air circulating over that part of your face could be contributing to the acne breakouts.

Good luck. The great news is that usually acne is treatable and does not last forever.
dude, proactiv, is what you need. it works...trust me.
just use over the counter acne medications like neutrogena and clearasil. They both work. But if it's not working you should consult a dermatologist before it spreads everywhere. I should tell you that dermatologist makes you go to the extreme. I mean I went to a dermatologist and now i'm taking birth control pills, another acne pill, and 2 different topical gels. I have been taking them for almost 5 months and haven't seen much difference.
If you already have very dry and sensitive skin then do not use peroxide! it pretty much burns your skin and will make all of your acne look worse and they look dry and scabbed so don't do it.
It does not bleach your skin but it does your pillow sheets! Anyway I use both Retin-a and benzoyl peroxide. You can wax with benzoyl peroxide but you might experience some redness because I waxed.

I use a product called duac that works well but its a perscription with BP.

As for sensitive skin you should first use it every other night and work up to every night. Make sure to use a non oily lotion in the morning like Cetaphil. What I do to completely avoid dryness (and I use both BP and Retin-A every other night) is I bought a little steamer...you can get one off ebay and when my skin feels try I steam my face for 5-10 minutes and the dry skin peels off.
for acne and some dry skin zinc supplements. and you could see your doctor.

Panoxyl has a 10% benzoyl peroxide treatment, which is the highest amount you can find over the counter. There's also other 10% benzoyl peroxide treatments you can find at any walgreens, target, walmart, etc.

    definately panoxyl

you can get in it strengths of:

    panoxyl 2.5 (2.5% benxoyl peroxide)

    panoxyl 5 (5% benzoyl peroxide)

and panoxyl 10 (10% Benzoyl peroxide)

you should be able to get it from any pharamacy or chemist
why with water??? you should always use some type of shaving foam or shaving gel plus you should make you are changing you blade very regularly as you have spots so do not want to keep on passing the infections around your face. Try freedom it works ok compared to other treatments which seem crap or see your gp for some antibiotics they normally help a lot plus all you need is a few spots and a few maybe on the top of your back and your gp will give them to you without question and they will help
I use Oxy, if you use the one with the lowest % of benzoyl peroxide and apply it every day to the affected areas regardless of whether you have an outbreak.
I use Duac once daily gel which contains that, and it seems to be working quite nicely so far

    Benzoyl Peroxide?

What exactally is Benzoyl peroxide? And why is it good for your face?Benzoyl Peroxide?
Benzoyl peroxide generally causes skin to peel. Too much isn't good for the skin, but given the right dosage, it causes the skin to loosen and shed away excess dead skin. That way bacteria isn't trapped in the pores and can be washed away. This prevents breakouts before it happens.Benzoyl Peroxide?

It is fine to put all over your face. That's what it's for! Just don't overdo it, or you might get some irritation. Start with a little bit, because it will be worse at first. Make sure to put some lotion on so you don't dry out.
it works for all those TV stars ..... so it cant be to bad ...plus a friend of mine uses it and loves it

Yeah, just use the wash. If you find that the 4% isn't strong enough, try Clean and Clear with 10%.

    Benzoyl peroxide?

can u buy just like a bottle of benzoyl peroxide or do u have to buy it in like an acne cleanser?Benzoyl peroxide?

its available in its own bottle. just ask someone who works at a drugstore where u can find it.
Nope you can buy it that way.
probably in stuff like astringent or acne medicine
have to buy it in acne cleanser. It is really potent and would probably melt your skin off. that is why when you look at labels they don't have more than 5% benzoyl peroxide in any product
just a sugestion but even use the acne clensers in moderation. I used to use benzoyl peroxide acne clensers all the time and my acne just got worse. My skin actualy needed mosture. Take it easy on your skin its the largest organ of your body and has its own chemestry you have to work out.

    Benzoyl Peroxide?

I had amild acne problem, but then my doctor prescribed me Benzooyl Peroxide 5% Wash. I've been using it for at least 2 monthes and my acne has cleared up. How long do I have to keep using this? My prescription only lasts until next year. Do you think I should use something else like salicylic acid?Benzoyl Peroxide?
I used that for 2 years when I was a teenager.

Usually your skin clears up (for women) when you are around 16-18 because there are less hormones and you should be taking better care of your skin as you age.

You can get another prescription, I still have a tube of it in case I get a break-out at that time of month.

It's entirely up to you how long you want to use it for, you should keep applying it everyday, but after a while it does dry out the skin (a lot) so be aware of that. Like me, you could just apply some when you feel a spot about to come up.Benzoyl Peroxide?
If the benzoyl peroxide is working for you, keep using it! Unlike other antiobiotic topicals for acne, your skin will not develop a resistance to benzoyl peroxide, so you can use it however long you need to. If your skin gets too dry (common BP side effect), just use a good moisturizer like Cetaphil.
I went to a doctor but it wasnt about my face it was about my skin because I have a really bad allergies and then he saw my face full of pimples then he recommended me something that was liquid!! It really work but It just cured some people and then come backs another!! But U should try using the cream that the doctor told u to use!! It is better to go to where is a doctor than using cream from the pharmacy!!! I tell u this because I had use cream like neutrogena and It didnt work so good for me!!! Anyway follow the doctor!!
no!!!! use what the doctor gave you and told you to do. My doctor gave me this special cream and my skin wasnt getting better, so i started going twice a day then my skin got worse. If the perscription lasts until next year, it will probably go away by then. if not, go back to the doctor and tell him/her what happened.

You should notice results in a few days to a week. Benzoyl peroxide comes in 1% and 2% strengths. It is also very drying to the skin. Use it for spot treatments. You could use a good facial wash like Neutrogena and astringent for the rest of your face. Neutrogena is very gentle. (There is a type for acne and regular skin care).Benzoyl peroxide?

Cetaphil Before or After I use a Product with Benzoyl Peroxide?

Should I use Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser before or after I use this cleanser that gets rid of acne and prevents them, that contains 10% BP? I have zits everywhere on my face, and I am completely sick of them! And I already have a product with Salicylic Acid in it and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cheap product with under 5% benzoyl peroxide. I cant afford anythig thats like 20$ so please is there any over-the-counter product I could buy at WalMart for like $5 that contains a low percentage of benzoyl peroxide. Thank You!! %26lt;3What is a cheap product that has under 5% benzoyl peroxide?
wat bout neutrogena or acnegel brand? What is a cheap product that has under 5% benzoyl peroxide?
the clean and clear products are really good, but there 10% pb, but honestly, 5% bp is not going to get rid of your acne... oh, and its only like $5
1st of all bezoyl acid is going to do nothing but irritate your skin and dry the ';pimples'; out and thats not what you want ';zits'; are caused by dirt entering the pores when you sweat etc so what fdo you want to do follow a cleanse tone moisturise routine and only twice a day, no more and exfoliate and steam your face 1 a week, youl see a difference and remember you might not think your skinis oily but oily skin causes acne therefore use a toner to shrink those pores

    gud luck

yeah you should stop using that and use a product with salicylic acid. that will reduce the redness and also cleans out your acne pores better then benzoyl peroxide. i find that the bp dries out my skin really badly... so my friend introduced me to the 3 step process he was using and that was clear.now. and it's working for me ever since.

How do you know if you are allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide?

I got some meds from my derm...

    Benzac wash 5%

    Cleocin gel

    differin gel

    cephalexin

so I have acne and all, which everything is working but I didnt use the Benzac wash in 2 days bc it burn my skin. I lather and rinse it, yet my skin had chemical burns comparable to a sunburn and it did peel. I tried proactiv before which irritated my skin. Not so badly, and you keep proactiv on all day. However, could this be an allergic reaction? Or maybe just sensitive to the Benz... or just bad in combination with the other products. I got a dermy appt. Weds. She say just use purpose soap and the other meds until then. What test can she do to see if I am allergic too?How do you know if you are allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide?
That stuff used all together will cause your skin to be very sensitive - shame on your dermatologist for not explaining that to you!!

You may have an allergy to benzoyl peroxide, so you should probably get back in touch with your doc. To rule it out yourself, you could stop everything for a week, then just try the Benzac wash and see if you still have the burning.

How long are you going to be on the cephalexin? This one surprises me - normally doctors stick with minocycline or doxycycline because of the anti-inflammatory properties. I'd get that clarified, too.

What can be done to treat skin that has been reddened and damaged as a result of using benzoyl peroxide?

i have used benzoyl peroxide for acne, but my face is always red now. i havent used it in about a month or so. However i cant seem to get rid of the redness and its driving me crazy! i figured moisturizer would help, but that doesnt appear to be the case. what can i do?What can be done to treat skin that has been reddened and damaged as a result of using benzoyl peroxide?
Try fresh aloe vera leaf juice. Not the one in the bottles. The fresh leaf. Buy a plant if you have to. It helps reduce what you're talking about. Apply and let dry. Then smooth pure, unrefined jojoba oil mixed with real, undiluted essential oil of chamomile over your skin. It gets rid of redness and irritation and promotes healing, as well as moisturizes. Real chamomile oil is not cheap, however, if you've been spending money on a dermatologist or lots of other products, you will see the sense in using this. A little goes a long way. Buy from a wholesaler of essential oils, NOT fragrance oils. You can find many online.

From the same kind of suppliers, you should be able to find calendula oil. Also good for redness and irritation. Does not promote acne.

A cheaper but less potent alternative when used by itself: take used chamomile tea bags and wipe them over your face. Or buy bulk chamomile flowers and steep them in boiled water, covered. Let cool and keep in a jar in the fridge. Use as a really cooling, refreshing toner which takes down irritation.

Use all of these things and it will help your skin a lot. What can be done to treat skin that has been reddened and damaged as a result of using benzoyl peroxide?

Hey hun, I came across your question just now because I am researching about scabies and itch mites. I would suggest not using a topical cream of anything else like it. There is a brand of lotion called ';kiss my face'; and it is not tested on aminals and contains no animal byproducts. It is stock full of healing chinese herbs. My father has been using it for years!! I would also suggest using a glycerin based soap such as ';clearly natural'; with aloe vera or vitamin E. I just ended using the Acne Free face kit after 5 years. I sware my skin was on a timed cycle to break out, and all that needed to be done was to break away. Just be gentle with your skin from here on out and it will get ';unred';. Good luck and take care, Sarah

Those brands are sold online as well as in most natural food stores. The soap is cheap (under 1.50) but the lotion averages 10 bucks for an average size bottle. Well worth it though!

  • Anyone ever used benzoyl peroxide wash and Tretinion on their face? How well did it work?

I was on Differin Gel and Plexion Cloths but it was so expensive I had to go to a less expensive type. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these 2 products.Anyone ever used benzoyl peroxide wash and Tretinion on their face? How well did it work?
Hey! Well, I usually use a benzoyl peroxide wash from Kaiser and a benzoyl peroxide topical cream. It works great and im sure u can find it at other places than Kaiser. I dont use the topical everynight because it tends to dry my skin too much, so I use it every other day.

Also, make an appointment with your doctor to talk about your acne if it really bothers you. Doctors know best, and can prescribe a pill that you can take to reduce the amount of oil in your face. {oil is what usually causes this acne.} For example, ask your doctor about something like Doxycycline, or for something stronger, Menocycline.

Hope that helps!Anyone ever used benzoyl peroxide wash and Tretinion on their face? How well did it work?
I haven't used a benzoyl peroxide wash, but I've used a benzoyl peroxide gel and Tretinion...I liked both pretty good, but the gel can really dry out your skin. I got these from Kaiser, too. You might like the wash better than gel, I think.
    not so good
I dont know but my brother used some in his ear and to wash out his mouth but i dont know about ur face.
If you use Tretoin with Benzoyl Peroxide you will experience drying and flaking. Use a more mild cleanser like Purpose, Neutrogena, or Cetaphil.

Avoid products with Salicylic Acid too. (for the same reason)

How long after using a Benzoyl Peroxide pad do you wash/rinse it off?

My dermatologist prescribed Benzoyl Peroxide (4.5%) pads for my moderate acne. The box says to apply in the morning but to refer to the paper inside the box for further instructions. Somehow I misplaced that paper before reading it. I know that you're supposed to wash and dry your face before using the pad BUT my question is: How long after using a Benzoyl Peroxide pad do you wash/rinse it off?How long after using a Benzoyl Peroxide pad do you wash/rinse it off?
You don't. You wash your face BEFORE you use the BP. Give your face about 30 minutes, then use the BP pad. You leave it on. If you washed it off, what would be the point of using it? It's the acne medication. If you want it to treat your acne, you HAVE to leave it on.How long after using a Benzoyl Peroxide pad do you wash/rinse it off?
You don't wash it off. You put it on and leave it. It will continue to fight the bacteria that causes your acne throughout the day.

How often should I apply Benzoyl Peroxide?

I got a tube of 10% benzoyl peroxide as an acne treatment, and don't know whether 10% is too much (I don't have a lot of acne, just a little). I am worried that it may irritate my skin. Is it okay if I use this? I am also wondering how often should I apply this gel?How often should I apply Benzoyl Peroxide?
Benzoyl peroxide has a great drying effect, so be very careful. You could irritate your skin very easily and cause redness. Since you only have a little acne, do not apply more than once every other day. Only apply a small amount. How often should I apply Benzoyl Peroxide?
I would start using it once a day since you don't have a lot of acne. Use it after you wash your face, usually before you go to bed is a good time. If your skin starts to get dry or irritated i would start using it every other day then
Ah, I had to get that to. Just apply is at night on to your pimples. It is supposed to dry it out. :)
    what do the instructions say?

How long does it take for benzoyl peroxide side effects to subside?

    it takes a few weeks.

i know you totally hate the dry skin but dont stop, cus then it wont do any good.

just put on some oil free moisturizer sometimes.

Should you moisturize after using benzoyl peroxide?

I have breakouts alll over my face. I am using Benzagel 5. I only use it before i go to bed.It seems to be getting a little better. On the other hand, it dries out my skin sooo much! Should I moisturize before bed?or just leave it dry overnight? What is best for me? Would coca butter or St. Ives be okay on it? Hellppp!Should you moisturize after using benzoyl peroxide?
no dont use cocoa butter use something lighterShould you moisturize after using benzoyl peroxide?
do NOT use cocoa butter or st. ives... those are for the body, not the face... I used to have this same exact problem, and i am now acne free... DO NOT USE ANY OLD MOISTURIZER... use one with salycic acid (another type of breakout-fighter).... the best one to use is cheap and easy to find. it gives your skin a tingly, fresh feeling, and it isn't oil at all!!! clean %26amp; clear dual action moisturizer... you can find it EVERYWHERE! cvs, riteaid, shoprite, etc... here is a link...

um tough one to answer. but remember over drying also causes breakouts. now. yes you should be moisturizing at some point may be morning instead of night so your skin could breathe. you should look into an oil free moisturizer and one that contains an spf if your usuing benzoyl peroxide. i use nutragena oil free spf 15 $7.... now i know that i need more moisture but non oil free clog my pores horribly so my solution. I apply to thin coats, allow the first to dry.
It's highly recommended to use moisturizer when using benzoyl peroxide, since as you found out, the product dries skin.

I can't tell what's the best moisturizer for you, since every skin is different. If you have a brand you use without any issue, it would be fine.

I hope your skin becomes clear!
Use an oil free moisturizer. I live in VT and during the winter month my skin get horribly dry, even then I break out. Thinking it was the medication making my skin so dry. Turns out all I needed was a good humidfier in my room. So keep that in mind if you live in an area like mine.
Yes, start moisturizing. I used to use Proactive (which has benzoyl peroxide) and it used to dry out my skin a lot so I had to apply lotion after every use of Proactive. Cocoa butter should be good enough too.
I agree with joely... I use proactiv too but dries my skin especially on top of my nose... I also use coco butter before and use just a very lil amt.. Now I used ponds face moisturizer after use... Mostly I put it only on parts which gets obviously dry...

  • What work's better tanning,or benzoyl peroxide?

Yes in my experience it works...also try washing your face once/twice a day vigorously with a wash cloth and soap. And maybe a drying mask.

I need a good acne wash but im allergic to benzoyl peroxide ?

I've tried clearasil and I got hives.

    neutrogena isn't doing anything.

    proactiv has benzoyl peroxide.

I tried clean %26amp; clear it did nothing.

I have zits on my face and neck what should I use?

I need something for sensitive skin.I need a good acne wash but im allergic to benzoyl peroxide ?
I use tea tree oil soap. It's a natural antibacterial agent and doesn't seem to irritate my sensitive skin. My little sister used to get bad breakouts on her chest and arms and it cleared her right up.

I use the generic Paul Mitchell bar of soap you can get at Sally Beauty Supply.

Some people with extremely sensitive skin may have a reaction but it's better than all the chemicals in most other face washes.

Sally Beauty also carries two lines of more natural face cleansers, Gigi Organics and Purist Naturals, that are also very good for sensitive skin.I need a good acne wash but im allergic to benzoyl peroxide ?
If you live near a burke williams day spa they have their own kind of face wash called H2V which is incredibly good for your skin. It is way better than Proactiv and it does not burn your face like proactiv does. It naturally good for your skin and does the job way better. If you do life near a Burke williams I recommend getting the cleanser which is called Regenerate and The acne solution they have is called Rescue. These are probably the best thing you could do for your face. Clean and clear and neutrogena are not good because they load their products with chemicals that are not good for your face even though they say they are good.
Sorry to hear those weren't working for you. A really good face wash that's all natural (you can recognize and pronounce all the ingredients) and smells good is kiss my face startup exfoliating face wash. You can find it at vitamin shoppe, whole foods or any health/holistic store that carries that brand. It goes for about $12-13 for a 4 oz tube, which might sound a little pricier than usual, but you only need about a small amount (dime to quarter size) to wash your whole face. If you want to read reviews on face washes, go to drugstore.com and type in face wash natural, and should come up with a list. Or another website is makeupalley.com. One other thing you could try is 10% alpha hydroxy lotion from acne.org. $16 for a 6 oz tube will last you forever. No benzoyl peroxide. .just glycolic acid. .will gradually fade marks, too!
use some good old fashioned rubbing alcohol. It takes some time to clear up your skin, but does help to clean out the pores and oils off your skin. If you're worried about the burn, just keep a wet cloth close. gotta do often and keep your skin clean.
Try face washes without benzoyl peroxide. There are some made with salicylic acid or cleansers that are made for sensitive skin like cetaphil or phisoderm.
Anything with sylic acid will work. Try clean and clear products with sylic acid.
I tried everything too and it just came down to good old soap and water. wash your face with soap and water at least twice a day (morning and evening).

There is a great website: http://acnehomesolution.com/index.html that has all the details. I really suggest you check it out and see if it works as well for you as it did for me.

What are some acne products that don't contain benzoyl peroxide?

Try Tea Tree Oil, it's been proven just as effective but without all the harsh side effects (although it does take slightly longer to start working). What are some acne products that don't contain benzoyl peroxide?
clear.now doesn't have benzoyl peroxide in it. The active ingredients are salicylic acid and sodium chlorite. It's a 3 step system like proactive but it's not harsh on your skin (especially important if you have sensitive skin) and works really well. I love them results i got from it!

  • Why did my salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide products stop working?

Good luck.
